VILLAGERS HAVE A SNEAK PREVIEW OF NEW AFFORDABLE HOMES IN DERBYSHIRE

19/08/2008

Neighbours of the development in Hulland Ward were among the 50 people who turned out to view the four two and three bedroom homes during a recent open day.

Two of each of the property types will be for rent while the remaining four will be shared ownership.  All will be managed by Peak District Rural Housing Association (PDRHA), a landlord which specialises in the provision of rural homes.

Tenants, who have already signed up for the rented houses, and potential residents of the shared ownership properties joined the landowner and parish councillors at the open day on Tuesday 5th August.  Derbyshire Dales District Council members and officers also took the opportunity to look round before the first families move in at the end of this month.

Staff from PDRHA were on hand to answer questions about the development, which is set back from the main road and has extensive views of the surrounding countryside.

The homes, which are only available to people who can demonstrate a five year connection to the parish, all have gas central heating, uPVC double glazing, a fitted kitchen and parking space for two cars.  They are built to ‘very good’ Eco Homes standard, including being fitted with high levels of insulation and toilets with a water saving flush.

PDRHA has developed the affordable housing scheme, it’s second in the village, which lies four miles east of Ashbourne, to help househunters with local work or family ties to get a foot on the property ladder.

There are shared ownership properties still available with options of buying 50%, 75% or 80% of the house and paying rent on the remainder.

The two bedroom homes start at £68,000 for a 50% share with approximate rent per calendar month of £155.83 while the figures for the three beds are £73,000 and £167.29 respectively.

Alison Clamp, area manager for PDRHA, said: “Despite the rain, the event attracted around 50 people and it was very informative, as well as interesting, for our visitors.
