If you are looking for a home in a Peak District village, you will know that there is a lack of affordable properties available either to buy or rent. For many local people that means moving away to find more affordable accommodation.

But if you want to stay close to your roots, your family or your job, Peak District Rural Housing Association (PDRHA) may be able to help.

PDRHA has been working in rural communities to provide housing for local people and now owns and manages more than 500 properties. They include family houses, bungalows for older people and flats. Most of the homes are let at affordable rent, but some are available through shared ownership.

Because every village is different, we always make sure we are fully aware of local needs when planning a new development. Working closely with local communities, we can design and position homes so that they meet the requirements of the village and complement existing buildings. Full consultation and co-operation are essential if we are to have the trust and confidence of the communities we serve.

Our schemes are frequently built on ‘exception sites’ – land which would not normally receive planning consent. The planning agreements we draw up with landowners and the local authority ensure that our homes are only let to people who can demonstrate that they have strong links with the area.

Most of our schemes are new-build but we sometimes convert existing buildings if this is the best way to meet local housing need. Our schemes are always constructed to a high standard and are designed to be as energy efficient as possible
