Good luck to our residents in Bakewell today

Wishing our residents in Bakewell good luck today as they make their way to Solihull to the tpas Awards.

They are up for the Excellence in Community Action Award for their Community Garden.

Real community spirit has put a group of residents in line for a prestigious award.

Having worked together to create a beautiful community garden at their flats in Bakewell, the residents were nominated by Peak District Rural Housing Association for the Excellence in Community Action tpas Award.

And we’re delighted that they’ve made the shortlist and eight representatives will be attending the Ceremony along with a Board Member, Alison Clamp, Company Secretary and Philippa Osborne, Housing & Income Team Leader.

The annual tpas Awards recognise and reward the unsung heroes in our communities by showcasing the inspirational success stories of residents who are bringing lasting change to their neighbourhoods.

New resident, Lynne Pheasey, began work on the garden in New Street in March 2017 and was soon joined by her neighbours.  After months of hard work, a beautiful garden was blooming and the little community had been brought back together through the project.

Philippa Osborne, Housing & Income Team Leader, says: “This project is an excellent example of what can happen when just one individual decides to try to make a difference to their neighbourhood.  None of the residents could have tackled the project on their own, but together they felt empowered to create this amazing garden.

“We were so impressed with how the residents worked together and what they achieved that we felt compelled to nominate them for a tpas Award.  Making the shortlist is a fitting reward.”
